What is a matrix switcher?
Routers, also called matrices or matrix switches, connect inputs and playback equipment, such as projectors and flat screens. Routers help determine which content will be displayed on which playback device. There are routers for the most diverse types of signals.
What are the diffrences?
We are talking about DVI routers, HDMI routers, HD-SDI routers, VGA routers, video routers, audio routers, CAT routers and HDBase-T routers as well as fiber-optic routers.
Another important characteristic of routers is the number of inputs and outputs. They can include: 2x2, 4x2, 8x4, 8x8, 16x4 and 254 x 254 inputs and outputs. Many routers also combine multiple signals, such as audio-video routers. With HDBase-T routers, the HDBase-T signal contains multiple signals, specifically HDMI with audio, infrared, RS232 and Ethernet. The methods used with CAT routers are similar, such as the Mondo from Magenta Research or fiber-optic routers, like the Voyager from Magenta Research and Fiberlink Optical Matrix from Artel (CSI).
What control options are available?
The possibilities for controlling routers are an additional feature of routers. First, there are the push buttons on the housings, which can also offset. There are also the interfaces, such as RS232 and Ethernet for media control and finally LAN interfaces with graphical user interfaces (GUIs).
